Sri Chennakesava Perumal Temple / ஸ்ரீ சென்னகேசவ பெருமாள் கோயில், George Town, Chennai, Tamil Nadu,

Mr Venkatesh, Mrs Sreemathy, Mrs Sakthi Prakash, Mr Raja and self went for  a Heritage walk on 24th December 2016, from Chennakesava Perumal temple to Nattukottai Nagarathar Viduthis.  On the way we peeped inside some of the heritage buildings like, YMCA, Pachaiyappa’s College Higher Secondary School also.

Some of the important features of this temple are ...
The temple facing east with a 4 pillar mandapam and an entrance arch. The 3 tier Rajagopuram  with dwarapalakas are after the mandapam.

In the outer prakaram, sannadhis for Alwars ( Chakkarathalwar is in a separate sannadhi ), SenGamala Valli Thayar, Andal ( a Kili – Parrot - mandapam is in front ), Kothanda Ramar.  

The original urchavar was sent to Thiruneermalai for safe custody during Tippu Sultan and Portuguese invasion. After that the present Urchava moorthy ( which was not belongs to this temple ) was brought back  to the temple.

During annual Brahmotsavam at Tirupati the Umbrellas will be taken from this temple  in a procession.  Temple tank and the Chariot are shared by both Sri Chenna Malleeswarar  Temple and Chenna Kesava Perumal temple. There is an interlinking passage between these two temples.

ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, ardha mandapam and a mukha mandapam. Alwars are in the mukha mandapam. A 3 tier Nagara Vimanam is on the sanctum sanctroum. Mandapa ceilings has the exhaustively caved reliefs, like parrots, etc,. The Mandapa Pillars has the bas-reliefs like, Thayar Sengamalavalli, Krishna Leela, Donors, Flower  creepers, lotus medalions, etc,. 

Temple tank and the Chariot are shared by both Sri Chenna Malleeswarar  Temple and Sri Chenna Kesava Perumal temple. There is an interlinking passage also between these two temples.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
The old temple was in the present High court complex. The temple was demolished for a clear view from the port by the  British East India Company. Due to public protest British east India Company allotted land and donated money to reconstruct the temple. The temple was reconstructed during 1762 CE by Manali MuthuKrishna Mudaliar. Apart from the money donated for the reconstruction of the both temples in the year 1762 by British East India Company, Manali Muthukrishna Mudaliar also donated a sum of 5202 pagodas.

Arulmigu Pidari Ilan Kaliamman Temple / Sri Ilangaliamman Temple / பிடாரி ஸ்ரீ இளங்காளி அம்மன், Saidapet, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

  11th December 2016.
This temple is on the Mount Road near Saidapet bus terminus. It is told that this is one of the Kaaval Theivam for Mambalam Village, ( south east corner of the mambalam village ).   The temple is facing east. The sanctum sanctorum consists of Sanctum, Artha mandapam and a mukha mandapam. There are sannadhis for Vinai Theertha Vinayagar, Valli Devasena Subramaniar and Navagrahas.

In koshtam Mahalakshmi, Saraswati and Durgai. In the sanctum, Amman is in sitting posture with urchavar in front. 

In the front mandapam relief panels of Saptamatrikas and Annanmars. Anjaneyar is on the opposite side of the sanctum. Panchamuga Vinayagar, Bhairavar, Naagar, Arasadi Vinayagar and Adhiseshan, under the peepal tree.

ARCHITECTURE
The Dravida vimanam is of unique  in construction on a square sanctum sanctorum and  with Kali’s stucco images on all the 8 faces. The two tier vimana has only one kalasam unlike in other  Amman temples with , ( like Rajagopuram ). Stucco images of Kali Amman is on sides of the Vimanam.

Sri Panduranga Bhakta Bhajan Temple, / Sri Panduranga Bhakta Jana Sabha, West Saidapet, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

 11th December 2016.
This Sri Panduranga Bhakta Bhajan Temple was built during 1928 and maintained by the 3rd generation people. In the centre Photos of Krishna with Radha & Rukmini.  Bhajans are conducted during  Margazhi month, and on all Saturdays.


The annual festival of Uriyadi was conducted in the month of Puratasi and for the past 3 years it was not conducted for want of skilled personnel for decoration. The In-charge Mr Baskar requested the readers for donations towards conducting regular poojas and development.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
This Panduranga Bhakta Bhajan Jana Sabha was started in the year 1928. Andal's Thirupavai, inscribed tablets was installed on 5th Dec 1976.

Sri Rama Bhaktha Anjaneyar aka Sri Hanumantharaya / Sri Sanjeevi Rayar Temple, Saidapet, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. CHENNAI.

The temple for Anjaneya in the banks of river Adyar is one of the oldest temple built during Vijayanagara period, 400 years before. The temple is small with Sannadhis for Iyappan, Ganapathi, Anjaneyar, Kothanda Ramar, Nagars, Navagrahas, Lakshmi Hayagreevar and Lakshmi Narasimhar.


Anjaneyar is facing towards North. It was believed that Sri Anjaneyar is worshiping Lord Sri Prasanna Venkata Narasimha Perumal temple, Ramar.   It was told that Sri Anjaneyar and Sri Ramar patham are discovered on the banks of Adyar River during excavation. The Kothanda Ramar sannadhi with Sita and Lakshmana  is facing east with Garuda, palipedam and dwajasthambam.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
As per the records during British period in 1862, a land measuring 1.35 acres was given to this temple.

Sri Anjaneyar Temple, Saidapet West, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

11th December 2016.
This temple is on the Jayaram Street opposite to Sri Prasanna Venkata Narasimha Perumal Temple. The temple is facing west  with stone structure, believed to built during Nayak Period, with reliefs on the stone pillars. The mandapam has the beautiful kodungai.


HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
From the style of construction this temple was built during 16th to 17th Century Vijayanagara period.

Sri Subramaniyar Temple / Sengunthar Kottam, Saidapet, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

11th December 2016.
The presiding deity is Sri Subramaniar. The temple facing east with balipeedam and Dwajasthambam on the east side. The main entrance to the temple is from north with a Rajagopuram. The temple was built during 19th century with a Vinayagar Shrine on the left side of the Main Rajagopuram. Moolavar mandapam pillars are stone and it was told that the structure exists more than 400 years. In koshtam Durgai and statues of various images of Lord Muruga.


In the outer prakaram sannadhi for Pamban Swamigal, Ramalinga Vallalar, Chidambara Swamigal, Bairavar, Idumban, Suryan, Kadambar, Arunagirinathar, Palani Andavar, Naagars, Saneeswarar, Navagrahas, Lakshmi, Durgai, Saraswathy, Valli Devasena Subramaniar, Kasi Viswanathar with Visalakshi ( in a separate Temple ), Nalvar with Sekkizhar.

In the inner prakarm sannadhi for Urchavars, Nava Veerarars, Valli Nayaki, Deivanai, Chandikeswarar, Palliyarai, Shanmugar and natarajar Saba.

The Senguntha mudaliyar community is taking care of the temple functions and day to day operations.

The will be kept open between 06.00 Hrs to 11.00 Hrs and 17.00 Hrs to 21.00 Hrs with 4 kala pooja.
