Thought
of visiting this temple every time I cross this place on the way to my Native
Village Pappavalasu from Erode/ Perundurai. Last Monday 15th May
2018 visited my Village and got down at Thudupathi on the way to Erode to catch
the Yercaud Express.
Moolavar : Sri KariVaradharaja Perumal.
Thayar : Sri Neela Nayaki.
Some of the important details are,..
The temple faces east with a Deepasthambam
made of single stone on the roadside. The Deepam will be lit on Karthigai Deepam day. Palipedam and Garudalwar are immediately after the front mandapam. The sanctum sanctorum consists of Sanctum,
antarala, and artha mandapam. Vimanam is on the sanctum.
It was told that Moolavar is
swayambhu – a Thulasi Madam. It was told that this temple might have been built
over the Brindavan or a jeeva Samadhi of a saint. Nobody knows the history
behind that. Urchavars are Sridevi and Bhoodevi with Sri KariVaradharaja
Perumal. In the other prakaram Nagaraj and a thulasi madam.
The mandapam was rebuilt in recent times with
concrete. There are reliefs around the sanctorum walls. There is a separate temple for Vinayagar with a Deepasthambam in front.
HISTORY
During renovation, they found a secret chamber in the mandapam, and Pooja articles were unearthed. The unearthed pooja articles are now kept at the Erode Tamil Nadu Archaeology Department.
It was said that the temple was built about 500
years before. It must have some inscriptions, but nothing is visible due to
whitewashing.
