The visit to this Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Temple / Sri Varadaraja Perumal Temple at Injimedu was a part of the “Narasimha Temples Visit” in Kanchipuram and Tiruvannamalai Districts, on 24^th March 2024, ie Panguni Uthiram day, conducted by Bhakti Ula, Pattabhi of Ashok Medicals Velachery, Chennai. Apart from Narasimhar Temples, Vallakottai Sri Subramaniar Temple, Thennangur Pandurangan Temple, and Perunagar Jyeshta Devi are also covered in this visit.

This temple is also called Dakshina Ayothi and Narasmhapuram Third of the Pancha Rame Kshetram of Tiruvannamalai.

Some of the salient features of this temple are…

The temple faces east with a 5-tier Rajagopuram. Balipeedam, Dwajasthambam, and Garudan are after the Rajagopuram. Dwarapalakas are at the entrance of the ardha mandapam. Moolavar is in a standing posture with abhaya varada hastam. Sridevi and Bhudevi are on both sides.

In the praharam Sudharsanar/Narasimhar, Perundevi Thayar, Ramar (Yagna Ramar and Narasimhar are on the bow of Rama is unique) with Sita and Lakshmana, Andal and Lakshmi Narasimhar. 

ARCHITECTURE

The total temple was reconstructed with bricks and cement concrete in recent years. The temple consists of the sanctum sanctorum, antarala, ardha mandapam and mukha mandapam. A two-tier dravida vimanam is over the sanctum sanctorum. Maha Visnu’s various avatar stucco images are on the 1^st tala and greeva koshtams. The vimanam is called "Puniyakoti Vimanam".

Stucco images of Maha Vishnu’s Dasavatara are on both sides of Rajagopuram and on the mandapam parapet walls.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS

It is believed that the original temple is more than 500 years old, and the same was reconstructed in recent years.

The temple is under the Control of the Ahobila mutt. Sri Sadagopaparamaajar Desikan and Sriranga Sadagopa Yatheenthira Desikan of this place, Injimedu, held the position of 34^th Pattam and 42^nd Pattam of Ahobila mutt.

Jeernodharana Maha Samprokshanam was conducted in 2023.

LEGENDS

Lakshmi Narasimhar's legend is associated with Bhakta Prahalath's story. After killing Hiranyakasibu, Narasimhar was very ferocious. To make Narasimhar calm, Maha Lakshmi was asked to sit on the lap of Narasimhar. After Maha Lakshmi, Narasimhar became calm. Hence Narasimhar is called Lakshmi Narasimhar. 

POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONS

Apart from regular poojas, special poojas are conducted on Vaikunta Ekadasi, Krishna Jayanthi, Hanuman Jayanthi, Tamil New Year, Thai month Thiruvizha, Thirupavadai, Anna Koodai Thiruvizha, Pavithra Utsavam, Thirukkalyanam, Oonjal Seva, Garuda Seva, etc. Since this is a Swati Nakshatra Temple, Yagna & Homas will be conducted on Swati Nakshatra day in all the months.

The temple will be kept open from 08.00 hrs to 12.30 hrs., and from 16.30 hrs to 19.30 hrs.

This temple in Injimedu is at the centre of Arani (26 km), Cheyyar (24 km), Vandavasi, and Chetpet (19 km).

The temple is about 2 km from the Pernamanallur Gajaprishta Vimana Shiva Temple.
