The visit to this Sri Arunachaleswarar Temple was a
part of “Gajaprishta Vimana Temples Visit”, on the banks of the Palar River.

Some of the salient features of this temple are….
The temple faces east with a 3-tier Rajagopuram. Balipeedam
and Rishabam are in front of the open mandapam. Stucco images of Shiva,
Parvati, Vinayagar, Murugan, Avvaiyar, and Narada are on the top of the mukha
mandapam. Stucco Dwarapalakas are at the entrance of the sanctum sanctorum.
Moolavar is on a round avudaiyar. In koshtam Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Maha
Vishnu, Brahma, and Durgai.
In praharam, Chandran, Suryan, Sapta Rishis,
Nalvar, Vinayagar, Sri Valli Devasena Subramaniar, Chandikeswarar,
Sarabeswarar, Navagrahas, and Bairavar. Stucco images of Siddhars and Rishis
are around the praharam.
Ambal is in a separate sannidhi facing south. Ambal
is in a standing posture with abhaya varada hastam.
ARCHITECTURE
The total temple was built with bricks and
concrete. The temple consists of the sanctum sanctorum, antarala, ardha mandapam,
and mukha mandapam. The sanctum sanctorum is on a pada bandha adhistanam with
jagathy, threepatta kumudam, and pattikai. Pilasters are shown on the corners.
The prastaram consists of valapi and kapotam with nasis. One tala, greevam, and
vesara sigaram are on the prastaram.
Shiva, Dakshinamurthy, Maha Vishnu, and Brahma are on the tala and
greeva koshtams. Maha Nasis and Alpha Nasis are on the sigaram.
HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
It is said that this temple existed on the same
spot in a dilapidated condition. The same was reconstructed and brought back to
worship. The present structure may be 100 to 150 years old.
LEGENDS
It is believed that Shiva of this temple was
worshipped by the Siddhas. Maharishi Bharadwaj worshipped Shiva of this
temple, on the way to Puduppadi, where he established a Shiva Lingam and one of
the Shadaranya Kshetram.

Apart from regular poojas, special poojas are
conducted on pradosham, Maha Shivaratri, etc.

The temple will be kept open from 07.00 hrs to
11.00 hrs, and from 17.0-0 hrs to 19.00 hrs.

The temple is on the State Highway from Arcot to
Kalavai, Cheyyar, and Vandavasi.
The temple is about 2.1 km from Arcot bus stand, 10
km from Walajah Road Junction, 18 km from Ranipet, 29 km from Vellore, 31 km from
Arani, 32 km from Sholinghur, and 47 km from Kanchipuram.
