Arulmigu Ponniamman Thirukovil / அருள்மிகு பொன்னியம்மன் திருக்கோவில், Padaslai Rd, Ponniaman Nagar, Kil Ayanambakkam, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

The visit to this Sri Pidari Ponniamman Temple, a Kaval Deivam at Kil Ayanambakkam, was a part of “Gajabrushta Vimana Temples Visit”, in the Ayanambakkam area on 2nd November 2025.

Some of the salient features of this temple are….
The temple faces east with an entrance arch. Balipeedam and simha vahanam are in the mukha mandapam. In the sanctum sanctorum, Amman is in a sitting posture, upper hands hold pasa angusam, lower right hand in abhaya hastam, and kapalam in the left hand. A Demon is at her feet. Shiva as Yogeeswarar is in front of the Amman. Utsavars are in the ardha mandapam.

In the praharam, Vinayagar, Murugan, Navagrahas, old damaged Amman, and Saptamatrikas.

ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of the sanctum sanctorum, the ardha mandapam, and a mukha mandapam. The sanctum sanctorum is in a rectangular shape on a pada bandha adhistanam. A 3-tier salakara vimanam is over the sanctum sanctorum.




HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
It is believed that the temple belongs to the Pallava period. Latter Pallava’s / 10th century Chozha period Saptamatrikas panel is in the outer praharam. It is said that the Saptamatrikas were in the sanctum sanctorum along with Yogeswarar, and the same was replaced by an Amman idol. Since the same was also damaged, the present Amman idol was replaced about 100 years ago.
