The visit to this Sri Thirukannudai Iwarar Temple
at Mel Ayanambakkam was a part of “Gajabrushta Vimana Temples Visit”, in the Ayanambakkam area on 2nd November 2025. This
temple is in the midst of a field, surrounded completely by water.

Some of the salient features of this temple are….
The temple faces east. Balipeedam and Rishabam are
in front of the sanctum sanctorum. Vinayagar and Murugan are at the entrance of the sanctum sanctorum. Moolavar Shiva Lingam is on a round avudayar.
ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of the sanctum sanctorum and a
mandapam. The sanctum sanctorum was built with bricks. The roof of the sanctum
sanctorum and mukha mandapam are covered with a metacolour sheet.
HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
It is said that the Shiva Lingam existed in the
same place, and the present structure was built in recent years.

It is believed that this is one of the eight
temples built around the Sri Etteeswarar Temple of Ayanambakkam.

Apart from oru kala poojas, special poojas are
conducted on Maha Shivaratri Days.

HOW TO REACH
The temple can be accessed from the Etteeswarar
Koil St. A paver block foot path is provided up to the temple. It will be
difficult to access the temple during the rainy season. During the summer can reach
through the S and P main road.
The temple is 3 km from Etteeswarar Temple, Mel Ayanampakkam,
4.5 km from Vanagaram Salai Bus stop, 7.6 km from Maduravoyal flyover, and 11 km
from Koyambedu Bus Terminus.
