This visit to the Stone Age Dolmens, Cairn Circles, and Menhirs at
Vembur, Kallathipuram, in Theni District was a part of Varusanadu Payanam, a
Heritage walk to the temples and Heritage Sites, organised by Aatrupadai, on 20th – 21st September 2025.
Thanks to திருச்சி பார்த்தி, Prabaharan, and Bala Bharathi.
This Stone Age burial site contains Dolmens with a cist and Menhirs on the periphery. The tallest Menhir may be 9 feet tall, a flat stone.
cist
Almost all the cairn circles and cists are
disturbed, and nothing is found intact. All the cairn circles are erected with flat
stones, sourced from the same place. Cairns may be erected in round or square
formations, similar to Narasingampatti, near Madurai.
