St. RITA’s Chapel, Santhome, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

A continuation post ( San Thome Basilica )…
 15th October 2016
St. Rita’s Chapel (previously Church) is inside the San Thome Matriculation Higher Secondary School. USCAN donated liberally to this Church. It was built by the Armenians and there are two inscriptions available on the east side of the wall facing Santhome High Road. The Armenian characters say “In Memory of Armenian Nation, 1729.” During this year only St. Thomas's grave was opened.

Another inscription in Portuguese on the same east side wall (on the Santhome High Road side) says that the church was rebuilt in 1740 CE. Previously the entrance was from the side on the South. Later the entrance was shifted to the North, inside the school. The Chapel was maintained by the Manford brothers of St Gabriel from 1954.
