141/ 24. SRI DHARMAPUREESWARAR TEMPLE, PAZHAIYARAI VADATHALI
This is the 141st Devaram
Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 24th sthalam
on the south side of river Kaveri. Appar has sung hymns in praise of Lord
Shiva of this temple.
This temple is at Muzhaiyur. During my
earlier visits, the temple was closed, but this time Lord Shiva gave us
darshan. There are lot of confusions about the Paadal Petra Sthalam at
Pazhaiyarai, since the Pazhayarai Village has 4 temples on all 4 directions,
via Kheel thali, Mel thali, Vada thali and Then thali. I thought previously
this is one of the thevara Vaippu sthalam. After visiting this temple I
understood that this is the Paadal Petra Sthalam.

Some of the important features of this temple
are....
The temple facing east with a small Rajagopuram
after the Rajagopuram. This is a mada type of temple with steps on east
side. Amar Neethi nayanar with his wife sculptures on the side wall of steps.
In the Mandapam sannathi for Suryan, Bhairavar,
Amar Neethi Nayanar with his wife, Nandhi and blipedam.
Moolavar is of 16 flat surfaces and size is little
big. In koshtam, Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Brahma and
Durgai.
The temple was closed by the Samanar and the same
was opened after Appar practiced the fasting.

Since oru kala pooja is performed, archakar may be

The temple is on the Patteeswaram to
Thippirajapuram Road, about 2 KM from Patteeswaram and Patteeswaram is about 5
KM from Kumbakonam, Tamil nadu.
