Sri Kaya Nirmaleswarar Temple, Attur Fort, Salem District, Tamil Nadu.

A Continuation post – Attur Fort – A Heritage Walk.......
 09th October 2016.
After landing at Attur Bus stand thought of having the darshan of Sri Kaya Nirmaleswarar and Sri Prasanna Venkatesa Perumal before joining the heritage Walk, since the Fort was very near to Attur Bus stand. It was about a km walk after crossing the Vashista River. The temple is on the east side entrance of the Fort. The temple is one of the Pancha bhuta Sthalam – Agni Sthalam on the banks of the Vashista River.

Some of the important features of this temple are...
The temple faces east with a 5-tier Rajagopuram in front. Balipeedam, Dwajasthambam and Rishabam / Idabam at in the outer prakaram. The temple consists of Sanctum sanctorum, Artha mandapam and muka mandapam.

Moolavar is a little large. In koshtam Nirutha Ganapathy, Dakshinamurthy, Lingothbavar, Brahma, and Vishnu Durgai.

In the mukha mandapam sannidhi for Nalvar, Maha Ganapathy, Bala Dhandayuthapani and Natarajar.

In the outer prakaram sannidhi for 63var, Iyappan, Lingas, Kumara Subramaniyar, Akilandeswari ( a separate temple ), Saneeswarar facing amman, Kala Bhairava ( a big and a small ), Swarnakarshana Bhairava,  Navagrahas.


HISTORY & INSCRIPTION
As per the inscription Rajaraja Vanakovaraiyar had renovated the temple from brick to stone. From the inscription available at the adhistanam the temple was built from 907 to 953 by First Parantaka Chozha and belongs to First Aditya Chozha architecture. This temple has 5 inscriptions, which speak about the donations given towards temple maintenance, Land given to Parpapattar, and land, and village donations. The inscriptions belong to the 10th to 16th centuries from Chozha to Krishnadevaraya of the Vijayanagara periods. 

TEMPLE TIMINGS:
The temple will be open for darshan between 07.00 hrs to 12.00 Hrs and 16.30 Hrs to 20.30 Hrs.

Sri  Swarnakarshana Bairavar- First time I have seen a Bairavar sitting and his concert sitting on his lap.
