Kozhi Nadukal / கோழி நடுகல் / Hero Stone / Veerakallu at Aviyur, Viluppuram District, Tamil Nadu.

The visit to this Kozhi Nadukal/கோழி நடுகல், at Aviyur, was part of the Viluppuram Heritage Walk organized by History Trails on 24^th and 25^th July 2021.

This Kozhi Nadukal is at Aviyur on the Cuddalore to Sankarapuram Main Road, under a Peepal tree. This Nadukal was erected for a cock, that won a fight and might have died after that. Upon winning, he was welcomed by his master with Poorna Kumbh and fanned with Chowry/whisk.

The inscription on the back side, starts with a meikeerthi as Madurai konda Koparakesari.. year… மதுரை கொண்ட கொப்பரகேசரி.. யாண்டு…   From this inscription, this Kozhi Nadukal may belong to the 9th-century Vijayalaya Chozha / Parantaka Chozha period.
