Ellaiamman Temple / Ellamman Koil / ஸ்ரீ எல்லை அம்மன் கோயில், Triplicane, Chennai District, Tamil Nadu.

The Visit to this Ellai Amman Temple was a part of Temples, Buddhist sculptures, and inscriptions at IIT, Mylapore, Triplicane, and Santhome along with Anbu Vandhiyathevan, one of my FaceBook friends on 06th August 2023.

Some of the salient features of this temple are...
The temple faces east with an entrance on the East and South sides. Balipeedam, Dwajasthambam, and Simha Vahana are in front of the temple. Dwarapalakis are at the entrance of ardha mandapam. Amman is in a sitting posture with 4 hands, holding Shulam and Angusam in the upper hands and bowl and knife in the lower hands. Amman looks beautiful. A head-size Amman is below the presiding deity.

In the praharam, Sri Vinayagar, Kasi Viswanathar Visalakshi, Sri Valli Devasena Subramaniar, Dakshinamurthy, Nagars under a neem tree, Utsava murtis,  Navagrahas and Natarajar.

ARCHITECTURE
The temple is consists of Sanctum sanctorum, ardha mandapam and maha mandapam and a mukha mandapam. The Sanctum Sanctorum is on an elevated level. An eka tala salakara Vimanam is on the sanctum sanctorum.

The Mukha mandapam pillars have the bas-reliefs of the Donor, his wife, and daughter on two sides of the pillar.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
Even though a Buddhist sculpture panel is affixed on the wall of the Temple, the present structures may belong to the 18th to 19th Centuries.

Ashtabandhana Maha Kumbhabhishekam was conducted in 1908, and 1981. The Dwajasthambam was installed and Maha Kumbhabhishekam was conducted in 1984  and 1992.


LEGENDS
This Ellamman also called Ellai Amman, is believed to be guarding the deity of this Triplicane area / Village from the evil forces from outside.

POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONS
Apart from Regular poojas special poojas are conducted on Fridays, Navaratri, Adi month Fridays, etc. Amman’s Annual Festival will be conducted on Adi Friday.

TEMPLE TIMINGS
The temple will be kept open between 06.30 hrs to 11.00 hrs and 17.00 hrs to 21.00 hrs.


HOW TO REACH
This Ellai Amman temple is about 800 Meters from Triplicane Parthasarathy Temple, 2.5 KM from Triplicane MRTS Railway Station, and 5 KM from Central Station.
Nearest Railway Station is Triplicane.
