Shri Mahaveer Digamber Jain Temple, Irungur, Ranipet District, Tamil Nadu.

The Visit to this Shri Mahaveer Digamber Jain Temple at Irungur was a part of Uzhavara Pani  at Kovilampoondi Jain Temple organised by the Tamil Jains, Ahimsa walk  Group  on 2nd July 2021. 


The Main deity         : Shri Mahavir Tirthankara

Some of the salient features of this temple are...
The temple  is facing east  with a single sanctum sanctorum. The 14th to 15th Century Mahavira Tirthankara is in sitting posture and Chamaratharis are shown on both sides and a hallow is on back of the Tirthankara’s head. A Simha  lanchana is on the pedestal. The Idol was reworked and hope the lanchanam was added during reworking. Usually the earlier idols will not be having the lanchanam.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTION
The Mahaveer idol was found abandoned in this village and a shelter was constructed and consecrated on 27th November 2016, through the donations received from  Shri Prakash Chand Barjatya, General Secretary, Shri Bharatvarshiya Digamber Jain Mahasabha.


HOW TO REACH
This temple is 14 KM from Valappandal, 13 KM from Cheyyar, 43 KM from Kanchipuram, 78 KM from Chengalpattu and 125 KM from Chennai.
Nearest Railway Station is Kanchipuram.
