This
Sri Bhaktavatsaleswarar Temple at Valappandal is one of the Twin temples in the
same Complex. This one of the lesser known Pallava period temples of Ranipet
District. This Temple on the North side bank of River Cheyyar. The Visit to
this temple was a part of “Pallava period Shiva, Amman and Jain Temples Visit”
in Tiruvannamalai and Ranipet Districts on 3rd September 2023.

Some
of the salient features of this temple are…..
The
Temple is facing east with a three tier rajagopuram. Bas relief sculptures of
Vinayagar and Durgai in on both sides Rajagopuram entrance. Balipeedam,
Dwajasthambam and rishabam are after Rajagopuram, under a recently built mukha
mandapam. Moolavar is little large on a round avudayar. In Koshtam, Vinayagar,
Dakshinamurthy, Maha Vishnu, Brahma and Durgai.
In
Praharam, Ambal sannidhi with Dwarapalakis, Nalvar, 63var, Vinayagar, Unnamulai
Ammai samedha Sri Annamalaiyar, Sri Valli Devasena Subramaniar, Nava Veeras,
Munivar, Vallalar, Kirubananda Variyar, Chandikeswarar, Surian, Chandran,
Bairavar, Saniswaran and Navagrahas.

ARCHITECTURE
The
temple consists of Sanctum sanctorum, antarala, ardha mandapam and maha
mandapam. The Sanctum sanctorum is on a pada bandha adhistanam with jagathy,
three patta kumudam and Pattika. The Bhitti starts with Vedika. Brahma kantha
pilasters with kalasam, kudam, palaka and Vett pothyal / poomottu pothyal. In
prastaram valapi,Kapotam and Viyyala vari. Bhuta ganas are in the valapi. In
Kapotam nasi kudus consists of lotus medallions and Bhut faces. An Ekatala
vesara vimanam is on the Bhumidesam. Maha nasis with alpha nasis are in 4
cardinal directions. Shiva, Dakshinamurthy, Maha Vishnu and Brahma are in the
greeva koshtam.
The
Maha mandapam was built during Vijayanagara period.
HISTORY AND
INSCRIPTIONS
The
Original temple belongs to Chozha period. The Inscriptions belongs to,
Rajaraja-II / III, Telugu Chozha Maduranthaka Poththappi Chozha and Vijayanagaras.
The temple may be reconstructed during Vijayanagara period.
Ashta
bandhana maha Kumbhabhishekam was conducted on 1st July 1988, as a
part of Kanchi Mutt Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal’s Pon vizha Thirupani and
in presence of Sri Jayendra Saraswati Swamigal.
From
20th September 1998, The Dharmakartha, supplied raw rice for
naivedyam to two kala Poojas. He also gave a gift of Amman Panchaloha idol in
memory of his 12th year
holding the office as a Arangavalar position, Pa Siva Thirunavukkarasu.
1000th
Annual celebration and ashta bandhana maha kumbhabhishekam under the leadership
of Sevur S Ramachandran, Minister HR & CE
was held on 10th February 2019, at an estimated cost of 39.40
lakhs.

Apart
from oru kala pooja, special poojas are conducted on pradosham, Maha Shivaratri
days, Fridays, etc.
