Sri Manarkandeeswarar Temple / ஸ்ரீ மணல்கண்டேஸ்வரர் கோயில் / Sri Manikandeeswarar Temple, Valappandal, Ranipet District, Tamil Nadu.

This Sri Manarkandeeswarar Temple at Valappandal is one of the Twin temples in the same Complex. This one of the lesser known Pallava period temples of Ranipet District. This Temple on the North side bank of River Cheyyar.  The Visit to this temple was a part of “Pallava period Shiva, Amman and Jain Temples Visit” in Tiruvannamalai and Ranipet Districts on 3rd September 2023. Thanks to Mrs Radhabalan, of Kanchipuram for taking me to these temples.

Some of the salient features of this temple are…..
The temple is facing east with a Common 5 tier Rajagopuram in front of Sri Bhaktavatsaleswarar Temple. Balipeedam, Rishabam are in front of the Temple. Vinayagar and Murugan are at the entrance of sanctum sanctorum. Moolavar is of swayambhu on a round avudayar. In koshtam Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Maha Vishnu, Brahma and Durgai.

Ambal Aramvalartha Nayaki is in a separate temple facing South. Ambal is in standing posture with abhaya varada hastam.

In Praharam Vinayagar, Chandikeswarar and Pallava period Sculptures of Vinayagar, part of saptamatrikas panel, Chandikeswarar, Ayyanar etc,.


ARCHITECTURE
The Temple consists of sanctum sanctorum and ardha mandapam.  The sanctum sanctorum is on a pada bandha adhistanam with jagathy, threepatta kumuda and pattikai. The Bhitti starts with vedika. Plain brahmakantha pilaster are shown. In prastaram valapi is plain. A three tier vesara Vimanam is on the sanctum sanctorum. Shiva with Parvati, Dakshinamurthy, Maha Vishnu and Brahma are in the tala and greeva kostam.  Nandhis are on the Bhoomidesam tala in Anjali hastam. 




HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
The Original temple may belongs to 7th to 8th Century Pallava period and reconstructed during Vijayanagara period. 15th to 16th Century inscriptions are found on the kumudam.

Apart from oru kala pooja, special poojas are conducted on pradosham, Maha Shivaratri days, Fridays,
