LEGENDS
It is believed that a water source is available on the top of the hill, hence this hill was called Pachaimalai.

As per the legend, once Durvasa Maharishi wished to do Shiva Pooja when he was at Kunnathur. Through extra sensory power, he came to know that this place was ideal. But he couldn’t do it with full concentration. So he did penance on Murugan and Murugan appeared, and gave darshan in the form of Bala Dhandayuthapani. At Durvasa’s request, Baladhandayuthapani stayed in this temple.

After the temple went into dilapidated condition, Murugan came in the dream of Mr. Kuppuswamy Gounder and directed him to re-construct the temple.
