Arulmigu Sundara Vinayagar Temple / அருள்மிகு சுந்தர வினாயகர் கோயில், Bazar Road, St Thomas Mount Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

This visit to Arulmigu Sundara Vinayagar Temple, on Bazar Road in the St. Thomas Mount area was a part of “Siddhar’s Jeeva Samadhis and Vinayagar Temples Visit” in Alandur and St Thomas Mount areas, on 10^th August 2024.

Some of the salient features of this temple are….

The temple is facing east with an entrance arch. Balipeedam and Vahana Moonjuru are in front of the temple. Vinayagar is in the sanctum sanctorum. The koshtas are empty.

ARCHITECTURE

The whole temple was constructed with bricks and lime mortar.  The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum and ardha mandapam. The Sanctum Sanctorum is on an adhistanam. Provisions are given on the wall to light oil lamps. Pilasters are of brahmakantha pilasters with kalasam, kudam, palakai and pothyal. The prastaram consists of valapi with madhalam and kapotam. There is no Vimanam.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS

The 1907 inscription on the east compound of the temple records that a House was gifted to the temple by Appasamy Mudaliar’s son Venkatarama Mudaliar for burning a Lamp. The rent received from the house to be used, after paying the tax and Repair charges to the House. The inscription reads as…
