Sri Angalamman Temple / ஸ்ரீ அங்காளம்மன் கோயில், Otthakkuthirai, Erode District, Tamil Nadu.

The visit to Sri Angalamman was a part of attending Talguni, near Kolappalur Sri Veeramathi Amman’s Thiruvizha on 24th July 2024. It was a long wish to visit this temple with its unique architecture, whenever I used to pass this place Otthakkuthirai on a bus from Erode.

Some of the salient features of this temple are….
The temple faces North with an oonjal, and the balipeedam is empty. A flat stone is worshipped as Sri Angalamman. A new idol with Simham as vahana is kept in the ardha mandapam for installation and consecration. Koshtas are empty.



ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of Sanctum Sanctorum and Ardha mandapam. The Sanctum Sanctorum is on pada bandha adhistanam with jagathy, three patta kumudam, and pattikai. The bhitti starts with vedikai. The pilasters are brahmakantha pilasters with kalasam, kudam, palakai and vettu pothyal. The prastaram consists of valapi and plain kapotam. The Vimanam is of eka tala Naga Vimanam. Maha nasis are on the cardinal directions. Ambals various forms are on the greeva kostam. The adhistanam was constructed with stone and the Bhitti and Vimanam are constructed with bricks.




HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
No inscriptions are found to prove its antiquity. Based on the architecture the original temple may be 300 to 400 years old.

POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONS
No regular poojas are conducted.

TEMPLE TIMINGS
Since no regular poojas are conducted, the opening and closing times are unpredictable.

HOW TO REACH
The temple is at Otthakkuthirai, on Erode to Gobichettipalayam Road after Kavundapadi.
The temple is about 7.6 KM from Kavindapadi, 9.4 KM from Gobichettipalayam, and 28 KM from Erode.
Nearest Railway station is Erode.
