21st February 2020.
The visit to this Sri Bageeshwarar Temple, at Kanchipuram was a part of the 2020 Maha Shivaratri Temples Visit, on 21st February 2020. The temple is located on the south side of river Vegavathi - Thumbavanam Street -Uthiramerur Road.  Bhargava and Birugu Maharishis worshiped Lord Shiva of this temple. Hence this temple was called Bharhavesam.

Some of the salient features of this temple are...
The temple faces east with an entrance arch. Stucco images of Shiva with Parvati, Subramaniyar on the left, and Vinayagar on the right. There is also another entrance arch with Shiva and Parvati’s stucco images on the top. In koshtam Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Maha Vishnu, Brahma and Durgai. Stucco Dwarapalakas are at the entrance of the sanctum sanctorum.

In artha mandapam Nalvar, Navagrahas, Bhairavar, Shaniswar, In Prakaram, Chandikeswarar, Vinayagar (with stucco Dwarapalakas), Atheeswarar –  (in Stucco Shiva with Dwarapalakas, stone Nandhi and balipeedam), Vinayagar with Raghu & Kethu under peepal tree and Bala Vinayagar on the wall. Nandhavanam is on the back side of the temple.

ARCHITECTURE AND HISTORY
It was said that the original temple belongs to the 7th to 8th Century Pallava Period and the same was reconstructed without keeping any trace of antiquity. The Ardha mandapa and sanctum were completely laid with modern tiles. 

The sanctum sanctorum consists of sanctum, antarala, and artha mandapam.  The adhistanam is of simple padabandha adhisthana. An eka tala vesara vimana is on the sanctum sanctorum.

Jeernodhara Ashta Bandhana maha Kumbhabhishekam was conducted in 1998. Even though the temple is under the control of HR&CE, maintenance, and poojas are conducted by the Mannam Veerasamy Mudaliar Trust.

TEMPLE TIMINGS:
Since Oru kala pooja is conducted the opening closing time is unpredictable. Pradosham is conducted regularly during that time temple will be kept open from 16.00 hrs.  

HOW TO REACH:
This temple is on Uthiramerur Road.  
The temple is about 3 Km from Kanchipuram Bus Stand, 5 Km from Kanchipuram Railway station, 40 KM from Arakkonam, and 75 KM from Chennai.
Nearest Railway Station is Kanchipuram and Railway Junction is Arakkonam.
