The visit to this Sri Periya Thambiran Eswarar
Temple and Veda Vanneeswarar Temple, at Thenambakkam, was a part of the 2020 Maha Shivaratri Temples Visit, on
21st February 2020. The temple is on Military Road in Thiruvalluvar Nagar,
Thenambakkam. This is a unique temple in which Moolavar and Consort are not in
the form of a Shiva Linga.

Some of the salient features of this
temple are...
The temple faces east with
balipeedam and Rishabam. In the sanctum, Shiva is sitting on Rishabam, and Parvati is
sitting on Simha vahana. Vishwakarma, Ambal Tripura Sundari. On the opposite is
a male god with two Consorts in a sitting Posture.
ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of the Sanctum, artha mandapam, and a mukha mandapam. Sri Vinayagar and Murugan are at the entrance of
artha mandapam. There is no vimana over the sanctum. The stucco image of Shiva and
Parvati is on the top of the mukha
mandapam.
Sri Veda Vanneeswarar Temple
The 18th-century Sivagnana Swamigal had written the Vanneeswarar temple’s sthala
purana in Kanchi puranam. (do not know whether this belongs to this temple or
not) The same is reproduced as given below...

Moolavar: Sri Veda Vanneeswarar
Veda Vanneeswarar Temple is on the
south side of Thambiran Eswaran Temple. This temple consists of a Sanctum and an ardha mandapam. Durgai and Dakshinamurthy are in the ardha mandapam. There is no
vimana over the sanctum sanctorum. Nagars, Rahu, and Ketu are on a platform.
Navagrahas are in the praharam.
HISTORY.
It is believed that the
Veda Vanneeswarar temple is about 1500 years old. The earliest history of the Thambiran
Eswaran temple is not known. As per the inscriptions, this temple was under the
control of Vishwakarma Trust since 1866 CE. Later, trustees were changed in 1904, 1980, and 1995, and the Trust was renamed Vishwakarma Mahasabha, which was registered in 2012. The Chakkarathalwar temple also came under
the control of this trust.
POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONS
Apart from regular poojas, special poojas are conducted on Pradosham, Maha Shivaratri, Amavasya, etc.

The temple will be kept open from 08.00 hrs to 10.00 hrs, and from 17.00 hrs to 19.00 hrs

HOW
TO REACH:
This temple is on the
military Road in Thenambakkam and 500 meters off the Kanchipuram to Chengalpattu
main road.
The temple is about
4.7 km from Kanchipuram Bus Stand, 6.2 km from Kanchipuram Railway Station,
42.5 km from Arakkonam, and 73 km from Chennai.
The nearest Railway
Station is Kanchipuram, and the railway junction is Arakkonam.
