Anjinan Pugalidam Inscriptions / அஞ்சினான் புகலிடம் கல்வெட்டு, அழகியபாண்டியபுரம்/ Azhagiyapandiapuram, Melkarai, Kanyakumari District, Tamil Nadu.

The visit to the Anjinan Pukazhidam Inscriptions at Melkarai, Azhagiyapandiapuram, was a part of the “Nanjil Nadu Heritage Walk”, organized by the Tamil Nadu Tourism Department and the தொண்டை மண்டல வரலாற்று ஆய்வு சங்கம் “திருக்கச்சி” from 16^th to 18^th May 2025. I extend my sincere thanks to Mr. Velu Pillai and Mrs. Radha Balan Ruth for organizing this Heritage Walk. 

This inscription is on a boulder on the back side of the Thiruvenkadappar Temple. The Anjinan Pugazhidam is the place where protection is given to people in danger of their lives. Literally, the word Anjinan Pugazhidam means a refuge camp, giving abhayam, etc.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS

The 17th-18th-century inscription on the back side of the temple boulder records that the place where poojas are done at Adikesava Perumal at Sankaranarayana Sriveeraramavanman thirumadam was an Anjinan Pugazhidam. 

ஸ்ரீ வெங்கடாசலபதி கோயில், பின்புறப் பாறையில் உள்ள பொயு 17-18 ஆம் நூற்றாண்டு கல்வெட்டு சங்கரநாராயணச் சிரிவீரராமவன்மன் திருமடத்தில் ஆதிகேசவப் பெருமாளுக்கு பூசை நடத்தும் இடம் அஞ்சினான் புகலிடம் என்று குறிக்கப்படுகிறது. கல்வெட்டு பாடம்:

1 ஹஷி ஸ்ரீ பெருமாள் ஆதிகேசவப்

2 பெருமாளுக்கு சங்கரநாராயணச் சிரி

3 வீரராமவன்மன் திருமடத்தில்

4 பூசைக்கு உள்ள தேசம் அஞ்சினான் புகலிடம்

HOW TO REACH

The temple is approximately 250 meters away from the Nudumangad Highway, located at Melkarai, Azhagiyapandiapuram.

The temple is 15 km from Aralvaimozhi, 16 km from Nagercoil, and 46 km from Kanyakumari.

The nearest Railway stations are Aralvaimozhi and Nagercoil.
