Kanchipuram Shiva Temples Visit- 18

The visit to Rudrakodieswarar at Pillayar Palayam was part of the 2020 Maha Shivaratri Temples Visit on 21st February 2020. After the Ekambaranathar Temple at Thiruvaduthurai Adheenam mutt Visit, our next destination was this temple at Pudupalayam Street, in Pillayar Palayam. This temple is just opposite the Sri Chidambareswarar Temple.

features of this temple are.....
The temple is facing
east with a mini single-tier Rajagopuram. Balipeedam and Nandi are in the
meta color sheet mukha mandapam. There are
no images in the koshtam.
ARCHITECTURE
The temple complex
consists of the sanctum sanctorum, artha mandapam, and open meta color sheet
mukha mandapam. A vesara vimana is over the sanctum sanctorum. Chandikeswarar is in
the praharam.
HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
In addition to this, there is a sandstone simha sculpture lying in
the Praharam. It was said that the temple
belonged to the Pallava period and was reconstructed during the Vijayanagara period.
As per the recent
period, inscription renovation was started on 23rd March 2009, and
Kumbhabhishekam was conducted on 4th September 2009 at Rs
4 Lakhs. The renovation works are carried out through Pudupalayam St Sengunthar
Caste Trust (a sect in the Mudaliar caste – a weaving Community).
LEGEND:
As per the legend, kodi Rudras (one crore) worshiped Lord Shiva of this temple. Rudras are the followers of Lord Shiva, and
Rudra is another form of Lord Shiva
(anger). In the Vamana Purana Rudras are mentioned as the sons of Kashyapa and
Aditi.

kept open from 08.00 hrs to 10.00 hrs, and from 17.00 hrs to 19.00 hrs

The temple is about 2.0
km from Kanchipuram Bus Stand, 3.0 km from Kanchipuram Railway Station, 30.0
km from Arakkonam, and 70 km from Chennai.
The nearest Railway
Station is Kanchipuram, and the railway junction is Arakkonam.
