Sri Adheeswarar Temple, Attuputhur Kanchipuram, Kanchipuram District, Tamil Nadu.

The visit to this Sri Adheeswarar temple was a part of the 2020 Maha Shivaratri Temples Visit, on 21st February 2020. This temple is about a KM from the Village in the midst of the Velikathan thron tree forest. Annadhanam was served at Mr Vel’s Kumaran’s residence, Attuputhur. Even though this Shiva temple is not on the printed list, Mr Vel’s Kumaran took us to this temple.

Some of the salient features of this temple are...
The temple faces east without any entrance arch or Rajagopuram. This temple was constructed in recent times. In koshtam Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Mahavishnu, Brahma and Durgai. Chandikeswarar sannadhi is opposite to Brahma. The entrance to the sanctum is on the south side of Artha mandapam.

ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, antarala, and artha mandapam. Ambal Sri Amirthavalli is in a separate sannidhi facing south. Vinayagar and old Avudayar, Balipeedam, Old Rishabam and New Rishabam are in artha mandapam. A two-tier brick Vimana is over the sanctum sanctorum on Moolavar and his consort. 

HISTORY
It is believed that the original temple belongs to the 7th to 8th Century Pallava period. The Shiva Linga and Rishabam are unearthed near a pond on the western side of the Village Attuputhur. Since the Avudayar was damaged a new avudayar was replaced. Old Rishabam is also retained and installed along with a new Rishabam. 

TEMPLE TIMINGS
Since the temple is located in a remote place and Oru kala pooja is conducted, the opening and closing are unpredictable. 

HOW TO REACH:
This temple is about 1 KM from the Village and 1.6 KM from the Mumbai highway. (The Village is 500 meters off Mumbai Highway ).          
The temple is about 14.0 KM from Kanchipuram Bus Stand, 12.5 Km from Kanchipuram Railway station, 35.5 KM from Arakkonam, and 58 KM from Chennai.
Nearest Railway Station is Kanchipuram and Railway Junction is Arakkonam.
