The visit to Rudra Koteeswarar and Pasupatheeswarar Temple was a part of the 2020 Maha Shivaratri Temples Visit, on 21st February 2020. After Enathur Sri ThanThondreeswarar Temple’s Visit our next destination was to this temple at Konerikuppam.


Moolavar: Sri Rudra koteeswarar

Some of the Salient features of this temple are.....
The temple faces east with an entrance arch from the South. A Stucco image of Shiva and Parvati as Rishabaroodar. Balipeedam and Nandhi are in the mukha mandapam. Moolavar is the sanctum is with nagabaranam. There are no images in the koshtam. In the praharam Pasupatheeswarar ( Looks Cute with decoration), Vinayagar, Murugan, Chandikeswara,r and Vinayagar with Nagars under a peepal tree. A Donor with an Anjali hasta bas-relief panel is on the wall, which may belong to the Vijayanagara Nayaka period.

ARCHITECTURE
The Temple complex consists of Sanctum Sanctorum, artha mandapam and open mukha mandapam. A Vesara Vimana is on the sanctum sanctorum. The Vinayagar and Chandikeswarar look very Old. It was said that the temple belonged to the Pallava period and was reconstructed during the Vijayanagara period. Renovation was carried out through public participation and Kumbhabhishekam was conducted on 07th June 2015.

LEGEND:
As per the legend kodi Rudras ( one crore ) worshiped Lord Shiva of this temple.  Rudras are the followers of Lord Shiva. And Rudra is another form of   Lord Shiva ( anger ). In Vamana Purana Rudras are mentioned as  the sons of Kashyapa and Aditi.

TEMPLE TIMINGS:
Since the temple is located in a remote place and Oru kala pooja is conducted, the opening and closing are unpredictable.

The temple is about 1.3 KM from Kanchipuram Bus Stand, 1.6 Km from Kanchipuram Railway station, 35.0 KM from Arakkonam, and 65 KM from Chennai.
Nearest Railway Station is Kanchipuram and Railway Junction is Arakkonam.
