History
and Architecture.
In
1965, the Mahatma Gandhi Statue was made by the renowned artist Roy Choudhary, from the Government College of Arts and Crafts, Madras, and the present Chennai. Eight
carved pillars, 4 numbers on each side, are installed in a semi-circular fashion
around the Gandhi Mandapam. These 8 pillars are brought from Gingee. It took
almost a year to complete.
It
is said that an underground tunnel was there from this statue to Gingee Fort.
The same was closed due to safety reasons.
