Pallava period Hero Stone, Sri Vaikunta Perumal Temple/ஸ்ரீ வைகுந்த பெருமாள் கோயில், R Kunnathur /ஆர் குண்ணத்தூர், Polur, Thiruvannamalai District, Tamil Nadu.

The visit to this Hero stone was a part of “Gajaprishta Vimana Temples Visit”, at R Kunnathur, near Polur, on 25^th May 2025. This Hero stone is located just in front of the Sri Vaikunta Perumal temple Deepa Sthambam.

This 6th-century Pallava-period Hero stone with inscription is found erected in front of the Sri Vaikunta Perumal temple. The hero stone measures 105 cm in height and 67 cm in width. In this Hero Stone, the Hero Bharatakatti is in a standing posture with his left leg folded. He has elongated earlobes and wears a half dress below the waist. He holds a kattar in the right hand and a bow in the left hand. The style of holding the kattar is very much similar to the hero stones found during the 6^th Century, Pallava King Simha Vishnu’s period in the Chengam areas. The man behind the hero is not known.

The inscription records that Kannu Ponnar’s son Bharatakatti was killed during the fight with the other King who came along with the Ganga King, for burning Navaroor.

வேறொரு அரசர் கங்க மன்னனோடு நாவரூரை எரிப்பதற்காக வந்த பொழுது, கண்ண பொன்னார் மகன் பரத கட்டி போரிட்டு உயிர் துறந்ததைத் தெரிவிக்கிறது. இந்தக் கல்வெட்டு பொ. ஆ. ஆறு அல்லது ஏழாம் நூற்றாண்டைச் சார்ந்ததாகலாம். பெரும்பாலும் பொ.ஆ. 6 ஆம் நூற்றாண்டின் இறுதிப் பகுதியைச் சேர்ந்ததாக இருக்கலாம். நடுகல்லின் உயரம் 105 செ.மீட்டர். அகலம் 67 செ. மீட்டர்.

இந்த வீரக்கல்லில், வீரன் பரத கட்டி தம் வலக்கையில் குறுவாளைப் பிடித்திருக்கும் நிலையும் பல்லவ சிம்மவிஷ்ணு நடுகல் கல்வெட்டுகளில் காணப்பெறும் போரிட்டு மடிந்த வீரர்களின் கைகளில் குறுவாளைப் பிடித்திருக்கும் நிலையும் ஒன்று போலுள்ளதாகும்.
