July 2017.
This
weekend, temple visits were to the temples at Chintadripet and Pudupet area on the banks of the river Koovam. Chinna - thari - Pettai (i.e., the hand-operated weaving machine in Tamil is called Thari, and Chinna means small) was changed to Chintadripet. Visited 5 temples on foot from the Chintadripet suburban railway
station. The first two temples visited are 18th
century Vishnu and a Shiva temple.
Moolavar
: Sri Adhikesava Perumal.
Thayar
: Sri Aadhi Lakshmi
Some
of the important details are...
The
temple is facing east with an entrance arch. Deepasthambham, Palipedam, Dwajasthambam, and Garudan are after the entrance arch. This temple shares some of the
common facilities, like a temple tank, with
the adjacent Shiva temple.
In
the outer prakaram chakrathalwar, Thayar Aadhi Lakshmi sannadhi, Aandal,
Anjaneyar. The Sanctum sanctorum was built with sanctum, artha mandapam, and a
mukha mandapam. Vimana over the sanctum
is called Ananda Vimana. Sridevi Bhoodevi is with Moolavar, and urchavars are in front of Moolavar.
One of the pillars in the mukha mandapa has the relief of Bickshadanar, another form of Lord Shiva. Since both the temples were constructed during the same period, the pillars might have interchanged.
