Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple / காரமடை அரங்கநாதசாமி கோயில், காரமடை / Karamadai, near Mettupalayam, Coimbatore District, Tamil Nadu.

At least twice a year, I used to cross Karamadai on the way to Ooty from Coimbatore. Every time I used to think of visiting this temple, but somehow I couldn’t make it. But this time when we returned from Ooty, when I expressed my wish of visiting this Perumal and the Shiva temple my friends readily accepted and had the darshan.

Some of the important features of this temple are...
The temple is facing with a front mandapam. After the front mandapam the Rajagopuram is of 7 tiers.  Dwajasthambam, balipeedam, Deepasthambam, and Garudalwar Sannadhi are immediately after the Rajagopuram. The Moolavar is Swayambhu and the head is only visible and it was told that the body of Perumal is below the ground. 

In the outer prakaram sannadhi for Thayar, Andal, Anjaneyar and Alwars. There is a Kalyana mandapam is also in the outer praharam. There are statues kept at the back side of the temple, the details are not known. Sthala vruksham is Karai Tree.


HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS 
The temple is originally believed to have been built during the Chola Empire during the 10th and 11th centuries. Thirumalai Nayak (1623-59 CE) expanded the temple during his regime and built the walls and halls in the temple. Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar (1940–1950 ) built a set of other halls in the temple. Ramanuja (1017–1137 CE ), the expounder of Vaishnava Advaita philosophy is believed to have visited this temple on his way to Melkote from Srirangam Ranganathaswamy Temple. The northern temple tower was built in 1944, while the seven-tiered 80 ft (24 m) Eastern tower was built in 2013. Some of the old halls were also renovated during 2013.

LEGENDS
As per the legend, the shepherd Kottariyar had seen the cow milking automatically on a bush/ Ant hill while grazing.  In the process of clearing the bush/ Ant hill Lord Ranganatha Swamy appeared before the Shepherd and blessed him. On hearing this the Pattar Community built this temple.

The temple will be kept open between 05.30 hrs to 13.30 hrs and 16.00 hrs to 20.30 hrs.

Karamadai is on the way to Mettupalayam from Coimbatore.
All the service and Town buses will stop at Karamadai.
The temple is about 300 meters from the Karamadai bus stop.
