The
visit to this Arjuna’s Penance Panel at
Mamallapuram, one of the UNESCO
Heritage sites of Tamil Nadu, was a Part of “Mamallapuram Heritage Visit” under
the title – “Known Mamallapuram, Unknown places - தெரிந்த மாமல்லபுரம், தெரியாத இடங்கள்” organised by SASTRA & Chithiram Pesuthada Groups on
19th March 2023.
This Arjuna’s Penance Trial Panel is about 200 meters away from Krishna
Mandapam. This is very similar to the Arjuna’s penance sculptures but
un-finished and there is no answer why this was abandoned.
Experts believed that before carving the present Arjuna’s Penance the
sculptor might have experimented in this rock.
