This
is one of the Shiva and Vishnu Temples built on the banks of the holy river Adyar,
after it comes through the Meenambakkam airport, at Manapakkam, an old settlement of the Chennai metropolitan
area. The old temple was completely
replaced by the new concrete.

The
temple faces east with a Mukha mandapam. Balipeedam and Rishabam are in front
of the sanctum sanctorum. Stucco Dwarapalakas, Selva Vinayagar, and Sri Valli Devasena
Subramaniar are on both sides of the sanctum sanctorum entrance. In koshtam
Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Lingothbavar, Brahma, and Durgai.
Ambal Madheswari is
in a separate sannidhi facing south. In Praharam, Anjaneyar, Kariya Manickaperumal (Danvanthiri & Kesava Perumal
are at the entrance of the sanctum sanctorum), Nagars, Navagrahas, Swarna Akarshana
Bairavar, and Kala Bairavar.

ARCHITECTURE
The
temple consists of Sanctum Sanctorum, antarala, and Ardha mandapam. The sanctum
sanctorum is on an adhistanam with upanam. A 3 tier stucco vesara Vimanam is on
the Sanctum sanctorum. Stucco images of
Shiva with Parvati, Dakshinamurthy, Ashta Bairavas, Ashta Dikpalakas, Maha Vishnu as Narasimhar,
Krishna, Narayana, are on the Vimana
koshtams. The Markandeyar Purana is in the form of a stucco image on the
parapet wall.
The mukha mandapam ceiling has paintings of a Shiva Lingam, Bairavar,
Dakshinamurthy, Vinayagar, Sri Valli Devasena Subramaniar, and Natarajar with
Sivakami.
Sri Kariyamanicka Perumal sannidhi was built with Eka tala Gajaprishta Vimanam.
HISTORY AND
INSCRIPTIONS
It
is believed that the original temple existed since ancient times. The same was
reconstructed with bricks and cement in recent years.
LEGENDS
It
is believed that Maha Vishnu, as Madhava worshipped Lord Shiva of this temple,
hence Shiva is called Madheswarar.
POOJAS AND
CELEBRATIONS
Apart
from regular poojas, special poojas are conducted on Pradosham, Maha Shivaratri,
Pournami, Fridays, etc.

temple will be kept open from 07.00 hrs to 11.00 hrs and from 17.00 hrs to
19.00 hrs.
