Moolavar :
Sri Oyyalamman
Some of the salient features of this temple
are….
The temple is facing east in dilapidated
condition. A Kanthu with Pavadai Rayar’s image and a Trishul is in front of the
temple. Parasuramar is under the Alinjil tree. Vinayagar, Saptamatrikas in the
form of stones, and Oyyalamman are in front of the dilapidated temple.
Amman is with two hands in sukasana sitting
posture keeping the left leg folded and the right leg hanging, keeping on a
dwarf. The right hand is holding a snake
and the left hand is holding a bowl. Amman is wearing padra kundalam and a big
tuft on the head instead of makuta. Why
this Oyyalamman is with 2 hands, whether She is a deity..?.. or a human, who
becomes a Goddess..?. No answer.
The Locals believe that She is a goddess. She
might have been called Oyyaramman and the same might have been corrupted to
the present name of Oyyalamman.
ARCHITECTURE
The temple is in dilapidated condition. The
walls of the sanctum sanctorum and Mukha mandapa were constructed with stone in double-walled construction. The
Sanctum Sanctorum is standing with the inner wall and the outer wall has fallen down. The stones are joined
without any binding materials. The Mandapa pillars are square and octagonal
type.
