The
Visit to this Sri Padavettamman Temple at Salavankuppam on OMR Road between
Thiruporur to Poonjeri Tollgate was a part of the Heritage Visit to Veerapuram in
Chengalpattu District on 16th April 2023. On the way to Velacherry,
happened to see this temple, constructed in Gramiya Style on the east side of
the Rajiv Gandhi Salai.

Some of the salient features of this temple
are….
The temple faces east, about 10 feet below
the OMR Road. Moolavar Padavettamman is in the form of a head with a nagar hood on the top of the Amman. Amman’s stucco images are on the back side in koshtam
and on the top of the sanctum sanctorum.
A Pavadai rayar and Trishul are in front of the
Metacolour sheet mandapam. Nagars are under a neem tree.
ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of Sanctum sanctorum, ardha
mandapam and a mukha mandapam. The temple was constructed in Gramiya style completely
with bricks. Dwarfs and erotic sculptures are on the prastaram nasi kudus.
There is no superstructure above the sanctum sanctorum.

Based on the style of construction, the temple
maybe 150 to 200 years old.
POOJAS AND
CELEBRATIONS
Apart from regular poojas special poojas are
conducted during the month of Chithirai.
TEMPLE TIMINGS
Since Oru kala is conducted, the opening and
closing times are unpredictable.
HOW TO REACH
The temple is at Salavankuppam, on the
Rajiv Gandhi Salai ( ie OMR ), on the east side 2.2 KM before Poonjeri Tollgate.
The temple is 5 KM from Mamallapuram, 14
KM from Thirukalukkundram, 28 KM from Chengalpattu Railway Station, and 60 KM
from Chennai Central Station.
Nearest Railway Station is Chengalpattu.
