Arulmigu Solaivazhi Amman Temple/ அருள்மிகு சோலைவாழி அம்மன் ஆலயம், வீராபுரம் /Veerapuram, Chengalpattu District, Tamil Nadu.

The Visit to this Sri Solarvazhi Amman Temple at Veerapuram near Thirukalukundram was a part of the Heritage Visit to Veerapuram in Chengalpattu District on 16th April 2023.  In fact, Veerapuram Village has a rich history of more than 1300 years since the Pallava period. Some of the Heritage structures and temples in the Village include Koochileeswarar temple / Sri Veera Mangala Nathar Temple, Jyeshta Devi with Manthan / Kulikan and Manthi,  Oyyalamman Temple, Solaivazhi Amman Temple ( a Saptamatrikas Temple ) and Sengazhani Amman Temple.

Some of the salient features of this temple are….
The temple is facing North.  Mahishasuramardini’s stucco image is on the top of the Mukha mandapam. A Trishul and Simham is in the mukha mandapam. A Vinayagar and Stucco Dwarapalakis are at the entrance of the sanctum sanctorum. Saptamatrikas are in the sanctum sanctorum.  Both Veerabhadra and Vinayagar are in the niches of the side wall. Chamundi is worshipped as Solaivazhi Amman. The Utsavar Chamundi is in a standing posture holding Damuru, Paasam, Trishul, and a bowl.





ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, ardha mandapam and a mukha mandapam and a open mukha mandapam. The Mukha mandapam pillars are of Pallava style with Tharanga pothyal. The Koshta niches are with Amman’s various forms of Stucco images. An eka tala salakara Vimanam is on the sanctum sanctorum. Stucco images of saptamatrikas are on the salakara Vimana tala.




HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
Based on the iconography of the Saptamatrikas and the pillars, the original temple belongs to the Pallava period. One of the pillar square portions has got the 10th to 11th-century inscriptions.  


The sanctum sanctorum doors are fixed on 1980, Sunday in Tamil Rauthri Year Aadi month 19th day.

POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONS
Apart from regular poojas special poojas are conducted on Fridays and Sundays.

The temple will be kept open during Morning Pooja Hours ie 07.00 hrs to 10.00 hrs.

Veerapuram is about 7.6 KM from Anupuram Bus stop, 09.00 KM from Thirukalukundram, 21 KM from Chengalpattu Railway Station, 19 KM from Mamallapuram and  74 KM from Chennai Central Station.
Nearest Railway station is Chengalpattu.
