HISTORY AND
INSCRIPTIONS
The
temple might have been built during the Chozha period in the Pallava style. The
Rajendra period inscription of the South side wall starts with his meikeerthi
as Thirumanni Valera… And the inscription also mentions Rajathiya Grakathu Aadi Arulina Peruman…
Considering the Thakkolam war happened near this place, Rajathitha Chozha was killed
in the war and the inscription mentions Rajathitha’s name, this temple may be a Pallipadai temple as per the experts.
The
Koshta murtis do not belong to the Chozha Period and Dwarapalakas are also missing.
The temple was reconstructed after Chozhas.
